Cooling Pillow Care: Following the Instructions for Each Material
Different cooling pillow materials have strict laundry rules. Washing a solid memory foam or Talalay latex core can ruin it, while neglecting outer covers allows skin oils to clog breathable weaves.
Material-by-Material Washing & Drying Rules
1. Removable Cool-Touch, Lyocell & Lulltra Covers
Unzip and machine wash in cold water on a gentle/delicate cycle with mild liquid detergent. Never use chlorine bleach, fabric softener, or dryer sheets, which coat cooling fibers. Lay flat or tumble dry low (Casper Foam Snow cover dries flat; Coop Cool Side washes cold gentle).
2. Solid Memory Foam, Talalay Latex & Gel-Lined Cores
Spot clean only. Do not machine wash the inner cores of the Tuft & Needle Original Foam, Purple Harmony, Brooklyn Bedding Talalay Latex, or the phase-change gel inner liner of the Coop Cool+ Adjustable Pillow.
3. Whole-Pillow Washable Fiber Pillows
Both the Casper Original Pillow (unzip outer shell from inner pillow, re-zip outer shell, wash both) and the Tuft & Needle Down Alternative Pillow Set are machine washable in cold water and tumble dry on low with clean dryer balls.
4. Waterproof Breathable Pillow Protectors
Unzip the Coop Ultra-Tech Protector with the waterproof polyurethane backing facing inward, wash cold on a gentle cycle with mild detergent, and tumble dry low.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why do manufacturers warn against using fabric softener on cooling covers?
Liquid fabric softeners and dryer sheets deposit a hydrophobic coating onto fibers that blocks moisture wicking and dulls the thermal transfer of polyethylene yarns.
